How to use jali.co.uk's shopping list |
If you've never shopped via the Internet before
When you order things over the phone, you tell the salesperson what you want
to order, they repeat the order to you and ask you for your name, address and
credit card details. Our website works in a similar way:
- You add things to your electronic 'shopping list' (other websites call them shopping carts or shopping baskets)
- When you tell the computer that you're ready, our website
- Summarises the order
- Asks you for your name, address and credit card details
(These details are encrypted so nobody else can read them)
- Asks you to confirm the order.
Most websites (for example, amazon.co.uk) work in the same way.
To make it easier for you, we try to give you as much information as possible
while you're shopping. For example, you can always see:
- Exactly what's on your shopping list as you're going along
- The total price so far including delivery
- The estimated delivery time of the order.
This is useful if you're working within a budget or to a deadline, so you don't
get any nasty surprises at the end. Note that the delivery charge assumes that
the delivery will be within mainland UK.
Registering
- Registering with us involves giving us your name and address (and, optionally,
your telephone number) so that, if you place an order, we know where to send
it.
- In addition, we ask you (a) for your email address and (b) to think of a
password. This password is to ensure that nobody else can access your
account and look at your details.
- Your password can be anything you like, but you should try to choose one
that's hard to guess. Click here
to see some examples of good (and bad) passwords.
- If you registered from your computer at home, you can use your username
and password to access your account from your work computer (but only if your
company allows it!)
- After you've registered, we'll keep your information safe and won't give
or sell it to anyone else.
'Logging in'
- Logging in is a bit like giving your name to someone when you phone
them up. It's so that the other person (or in this case jali.co.uk)
knows who you are.
- You'll need to log in if you've already registered with us but the computer
doesn't recognise you (for example, if you're using your work computer).
- When you log in, we'll ask you for your email address and the password you
chose when you registered, so we can verify that you are who you say you are!
- You'll also have to give your password to get to important areas (for example,
to place a new order or to check the progress of an existing one).
What's this got to do with my shopping list?
- If you've already registered with us and are logged in, jali.co.uk
will remember what's on your shopping list when you leave the site so it's
there on your next visit. This is useful if, for example, you've put a radiator
cover on your shopping list but want some time to check your radiator measurements
before placing the order.
- If you've registered before but can't see the things on your shopping list,
you may not be logged in and should click the 'Login' button on the left-hand
sidebar.
Is it safe to give my credit card details on the Internet?
- If you decide to place an order, all your personal information will be encrypted
before it is sent to us. This means that only your computer and jali.co.uk
can access your personal details, including your credit card details.
- Most computers will show a notice like this when our website and your computer
are about to begin encrypting the information they send to each other:

When you see this notice, just click the OK button to carry on. On
the next screen, you should see a little padlock ( )
at the bottom of the browser window.
- Conversely, once your computer has finished sending the encrypted information
and you go back to the main part of our website, you'll see something like
this:

When you see this message, click the Yes button to carry on.
This should be all you need to know about shopping at jali.co.uk (and
on most other sites). If you want more help then feel free to contact us, which
you can do by clicking here.
