A Jali radiator cabinet provides a finishing touch to a room or hallway by transforming an old radiator into an attractive design feature. You can also cover meters, pipes and other unsightly details. With the Jali Designer anybody can produce custom-made cabinets very quickly and easily to fit any position - even in difficult corners or alcoves.

Your cabinet is delivered to your door in two weeks as your very own DIY project in a box.

All the parts are precision made to your exact sizes to suit your room and design. You get all the fittings and a set of comprehensive instructions that are drawn specifically for you.

The step-by-step diagrams feature your actual cabinet design and configuration, so they're really easy to follow. The video here shows a typical delivery pack.

Cabinets are available in white or beige primer, or in plain MDF. We recommend using the primed option for all paint finishes.

This video shows how easily and quickly a typical cabinet can be assembled. The cabinet parts are joined together using a combination of "cam and bolt" fittings, dowels (wooden or plastic pegs) and screws.

Each individual kit includes the exact fittings required. They can be easily identified in the instruction diagrams.

Once fully assembled, the side skirtings are cut to accommodate any existing room skirting board. The trick is in marking them accurately: the video shows how easy this is when you know how.

This video illustrates how radiators heat your room. Radiator cabinets are to enhance your room décor and, despite what you may be told, they do not either lose or save energy - although they do stop heat being lost behind the curtains if installed under a window.

However, radiator cabinets do enable you to do the following, which not many people know: your radiator will work much more efficiently if you paint it black. Yes, if you paint it black you will feel it warm your room faster. This apparently odd behaviour, called "black body radiation", was discovered by scientists including Einstein around the 1900's. So if you ever wondered why the radiators in cars, fridges or amplifiers are always black, now you know!

Measuring the size of your radiator is straightforward as you can see here. You can work in any measurements - inches, centimetres or millimetres – by setting the measurements button at the bottom left of the Jali Designer when you start.

Making your cabinet the correct size is always a concern but using the Guide button in the Jali Designer makes it really easy. It also means we can automatically check that your cabinet will fit around your radiator.

To be really sure press the Inside button (top right in the Jali Designer) to see the clearances around your cabinet. If you need to alter them you can - but take care not to reduce them too much, as you'll need a certain amount of free space for the air to circulate.

As standard, your cabinet will arrive primed ready for finishing in the colour of your choice. You can paint your cabinet with any type of paint and with either a brush or an aerosol.

Most people finish their cabinets in a traditional white or off-white gloss or satin to match their existing woodwork, in which case the easiest method is to fit the cabinet and brush paint it in place. This also makes future maintenance easy and simple. If you are going for a strong colour we would suggest using an aerosol spray for the fretwork.

We also suggest you paint the radiator and the inside of the cabinet matt black which improves the heat transfer into your room (see Heating). This also helps to obscure the radiator and pipes inside the cabinet.
