MDF shapes
Options available with MDF shapes
The shapes can be individually tailored as follows:
Basic rectangle
- Adjustable overall size (length and width);
- Corners: sharp; curved (concave or convex); rectangular cutout or a chamfer (diagonal), all at any size;
- Edges: any number of rectangular cutouts along any of the four edges;
- Any number of circular or rectangular cutouts within the shape;
- Any number of PCD holes within the shape (PCD = pitch circle diameter: any number of holes evenly spaced in a circle - commonly used for fixing holes for speaker units etc);
- Available in 6mm, 18mm or 30mm thick MDF.
Triangles
- Triangles can be made by starting with a rectangle and adding a chamfer to one or two corners to make any triangular shape.
Circle
- Make a circle by applying the same radius to each corner of a square. The radius should be half the length of the sides.
L-shape
- Width and height of the legs of the "L" can be varied by changing the dimensions of the corner cutout.
Almost anything is possible by starting with a basic shape and adding more and more details. This shape was used as part of the instrument panel for a light aircraft. A similar design might be useful for making a speaker shelf in the boot of a car, or an organiser rack for DIY tools at home.
