Jali Designer: Common Questions
|
Here are answers to some common questions about the Jali Designer. Further
help on using the program and measuring is available within the program itself
(with diagrams where appropriate).
Installing the program
Please note: While the program is being installed, you may
see the following message: "Unable to register the DLL/OCX:dllRegister
server failed;Code 0x8002801C". If you see this, just press the 'Ignore'
button underneath the message; the installation should then finish you'll
be able to use the program. This appears to be an issue with the Macromedia
Flash Player, which the Jali Designer uses. You might see this message from
October 2006 onwards.
Which computers can I use the Jali Designer on?
The Jali Designer should work on any PC running Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4,
2000 or XP. To place an order, you'll need either an email connection or a
printer.
What does "You must have Administrator privileges to install this
program" (or similar) mean?
You might see this message if you're trying to install the Jali Designer
onto your work PC. It means that your company has disallowed program installations
as part of their security policy. If, however, you see this message at home,
ask whomever set up the PC to help.
Using the Jali Designer
Can I order more than one thing at a time?
Yes. Once you've added the first item, just click another button to add a
second item. The items will appear in the list at the top left, and you can
go back to each one by clicking it in the list. When you press the "Prepare
Order" button, the order form will appear with all the items listed on
it.
How do I make a combination item?
You can combine two or more units (e.g. a cupboard or radiator cabinet with
bookshelves on top of it) by just entering both items in the same project
(see above). If you enter the same width and the same number of sections for
both items, the design will follow through vertically between them. At the
moment you can't see them both together on the screen at the same time, but
we're planning to include this feature soon - in the meantime, you can always
ask us to send you a combination drawing of the items.
How do I specify shelf heights in a bookcase or cupboard?
First of all, enter the overall sizes of the unit. Once you've done that,
you add shelves by working from the bottom upwards, adding one shelf at a
time by clicking the appropriate button. We've provided common sizes (see
below), or you can specify the exact heights between the shelves if you want.
Alternatively, you can tell the Jali Designer how many shelves you want in
the whole unit and it will space them out evenly for you.
What about storage for CDs / DVDs / videos / books etc?
We've added some common sizes to the program - so for example there's a button
you can press to add a shelf that will fit most CD cases. However, always
check with the actual size of the items you want to put on the shelves, as
(for example) paperbacks vary in height, and videos come in many different-sized
cases!
Non-standard units
I want a cupboard but I'd like a hole cut in the back for plugs / hi-fi unit
speaker cables etc. Is this possible?
Yes. Design the unit as normal but, before you send the order, add a description
of what you want to the email or to the printout. We can usually accommodate
simple changes for only a small extra charge (usually about £10 or so).
How can I make a corner cupboard / bay window radiator cabinet / other
unit?
At the moment you can't do this directly using the Jali Designer, but we
can usually accommodate most non-standard designs easily. Feel free to contact
us and we'll give you a quote - you can even send in a design you've created
with the program if you want.
