In the last issue of Jali Designer we told you about some of the many TV programmes that have featured Jali furniture. Since the ‘Makeover’ genre became such an integral part of our TV schedules, Jali furniture and DIY components have been featured regularly.

However, Jali has made an impact on the big screen too, with some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters using Jali products. Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone featured a number of Jali products and, in the past, the world’s best-known secret agent has battled evil with the help of Jali. Look closely in The World is Not Enough and you’ll see Jali fretwork in one of the film’s big fight scenes on board a submarine. We’re also proud that the Palm Trees on Tracy Island in Thunderbirds – The Movie were made using Jali products.

Jali continues to be in demand from the film industry and one of our latest appearances is in the film Prince of Persia - Sands of Time
which is due to be released in May 2010 and for which we made fretwork for Alamut City. Jali has also supplied fretwork for the
recent phenomenally successful Monkey Journey to the West which has enjoyed a sell-out season at the O2 in London.

We value your opinions!

The Jali Designer tool on the website continues to help our
customers order made-to-measure furniture for almost any room in the home or office. If you have any questions to ask regarding
using the Jali Designer don’t forget that our customer services team are on hand to help.

We continue to introduce new items to our range of made-to-measure products and the beginning of a New Year sees a range of new products now available via www.jali.co.uk

  • Edge Trims. These decorative lengths of trim add a finishing touch to the edges of shelves, as picture frames or as decorative room edging. Jali
Edge Trims come in standard lengths of 1200mm (about 4 feet) and are
6mm (1/4 inch) thick. And if you need longer lengths than this, the pattern
on two edge trims will join up when they're put end-to-end.

  • Made-to-measure dressers. Our new Jali Dressers combine a base
cupboard with customisable shelving above. Because the dressers can be any size, they can fit anywhere in the home - along a wall, either side of a chimney breast or in an awkward alcove. We have three initial designs to choose from – but remember that you can alter almost any detail you want such as the shelves and their heights, the style of the doors and the height of the cupboard section. You can even extend the middle shelf board to
    make a desk surface.

Here are some frequently-asked questions about Jali made-to-measure furniture.

Why not try the Jali Designer right now? Visit www.jali.co.uk

Are Jali made-to-measure kits easy to fit?

Yes. When your kit arrives, all the difficult carpentry tasks have been done for you. You simply need to assemble it using the fixings provided and then fix it in place. The only adjustment you may need to make is to the 'side skirtings' on larger items of furniture which would need to be cut to fit around your existing skirting board. This is called scribing and it can be done with a jigsaw.

Will I need any special tools to put together a Jali kit?

Nothing that you probably do not have in your tool box already: all you'll need is a large and a small Pozidrive or Phillips screwdriver and a saw to cut the side skirting pieces if required. The only other item required is a little PVA or wood glue.

Do you keep any made-to-measure kits in stock?

No. Jali produces only made to measure furniture and because every customer's requirement is different it would be impractical to carry stocks.

But our manufacturing process has been specially developed so that we can deal with most orders as though they were produced on a traditional production line. That means our costs and delivery times are kept low.

Can I buy my unit painted?

Currently all our products are supplied unpainted, ready for on-site painting. With a bit of care and attention you can get an excellent finish by hand-painting. See the Painting MDF section for some tips.

Jali is aware of its responsibility to manage its manufacturing processes and we are working to protect and enhance the environment. We are fully committed to reducing or eliminating any negative impacts our business may have, and to controlling and avoiding pollution.

We are an environmentally-aware business and we are constantly working on waste reduction, sustainability and minimising our impact on the environment.

Our unrivalled service, quality and value for money is made possible by our own revolutionary design and manufacturing system. This enables us to manufacture bespoke products as if on a dedicated production line - and at the lowest possible price.

By grouping lots of orders together and cutting the parts at the same time, we are able to minimise the amount of material that is wasted. Any waste we do create is disposed of on our own premises to reduce the impact of our business on the environment.

Our factory is located in Kent, just off the A2 between
Canterbury and Dover. Office and showroom opening hours are between 9am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
